Graphic Novel and Other Art

I recently scaled the K2 of my cartoonist career so far, that being the drawing of some 470 pages for my graphic novel project, which may see light now as a mini-series instead. At this point, I can't really say. It took a lot out of me, though, so I'm quite thrilled to be at a place where I can begin scanning pages. I have a few panels I can share, so I'll post them here, along with a couple other items currently in the stack.

  1. Rock I am always impressed by your production and skill. Keep making books for yourself. In 10 years you will have ownership of a publishing companies worth of inventory. It could be worth millions of dollars. Create your own line of books and start publishing your stuff yourself. There is no "advantage" to having a publisher. It's all available to the individual. Use createspace to distribute the book to the world (set up is super fast). It is by far the bet way to be in the market. Give it time, and you will succeed! I am sure of it.

  2. You are in a unique place in your life. You have friends that will ink and letter your work. You should consider an editor, but I know you don't enjoy that process. But an editor, can only help you. If someone had to pay for inkers, and letteres, the book would cost a fortune. (figure $200 a page for inks and letters). So you are able to get 80,000 in free inks and lettering and that help alone, adds considerable value to the project. Plus the 160 thousand you would (pay someone) to draw such a book (at $200 a page). So this book, is worth a fortune in JUST production cost. If it does not sell, all the work is just a lost investment. I know all about that, 99% of my books never sold one, but if you get a property that is a hit, all this time and money, is recovered. Having a team of inkers and so on to finish your book, is a very fortunate thing. And the talent you have inking is incredible. I think with all this going for you..you are producing like a 240 thousand dollar (in production cost) book. That is no small feat. Keep all your copyrights and self publish. Then when Hollywood wants the rights..you cash in.

    1. I suppose 'romantic comedy' would be the most accurate description. The book will really be an American take on what the Japanese call 'harem' comedies, so I'm hoping the book will be sold in Japan where a comparison can be made. I'd be interested in knowing how they might feel the formula works when filtered through American "sensibilities" for lack of a better word.
