A biggie that I missed...
In my article on beach-set monster movies, I overlooked 1977's SHOCKWAVES, in which castaways find themselves on a tiny island inhabited only by an elderly German scientist. Turns out the scientist was responsible for an elite squad of aquatic Nazi soldiers that refuse to die, and said zombies are still lurking just off shore! It may sound silly, but this is one of the better genre pictures of the 70's. Peter Cushing and John Carradine star, though the main player is a young Brooke Adams (who looks simply smashing in the tiny yellow bikini she wears for much of the picture). For a far more idiotic -and shockingly technically inept- approach to underwater Nazi zombies, check out the 1981 European import ZOMBIE'S LAKE, a film the defies description....
