A Quick Look: WEREWOLF OF WOODSTOCK (1975 - color)
Here's a particularly obscure one. WEREWOLF OF WOODSTOCK was a 70's TV movie shot on video tape. Set shortly after the infamous hippie gathering and music festival, our story concerns a caretaker tasked with cleaning up the mess. When he gets struck by lightning, this somehow transforms him into a werewolf... He menaces some locals, including a hippie gang from which he abducts and holds hostage a girl. Thought it sounds bizarre, it's actually a fairly standard TV monster movie of it's day. The shot-on-video aspect of things often gives it the feel of a soap opera -albeit a particularly oddball one. It apparently didn't get a lot of repeat play after it's initial showing, and was never released on video. Reportedly, producer Dick Clark (yes, THE Dick Clark) was so embarrassed by the movie that he had the master print destroyed! It's a hard one to track down, but DVD-R copies can be unearthed if you're diligent. Joe Blasco did the make-up, and the werewolf's mouth appliance seems to've come from the same molds he used for TRACK OF THE MOON BEAST. It's certainly one of the most unique werewolf designs in movie history. It ain't a great movie or anything, but it's rarity gives it a charm all the same.
